Title and Author: Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody

Plot Overview: This novel follows teenage Sorina, who works as a rare illusion-worker in a large traveling circus, called the Gomorrah Festival. She can create illusions of people and animals that others can interact with and these illusions have personalities that make them as close to Sorina as friends and family. But then one of her illusions is murdered, and Sorina sets out to find the culprit among the festival workers and visitors, which takes her into some of the darkest parts of the circus, with the help of a new friend along the way.

Critique: The most compelling aspect of the book is the creativity behind the story. I love, love the plot line and the dark mystery behind the illusion murders. I don't really read mystery that often but I love the way the author puts aspects of this and fantasy together. It combines elements of the Night Circus and Caraval, with a couple other books like The Name of this Book is Secret (I really don't know why this book reminds me of the Secret books). If you liked the Night Circus freshmen year, read this book! I was not disappointed with this book. Although, I read the ARC version, so there were multiple grammar errors, but I'm sure they were fixed in the final copy.

Cover Critique: I really liked the purple cover and with the kind of creepy quote on the bottom, which definitely reflects the reputation of the Gomorrah Festival. I didn't understand the title of "Burning City" and the smokey aspects of the font until a little bit into the book.
