We have been enjoying some lovely sunny days at school. Please make sure your child has the correct uniform school hat for being outside during break times, trips, etc. No hat = no play! These are available for order on Kindo.
Reminder: School Closed this Friday for a Teacher Only Day.
Fish and Chip Night
Thank you to one of our lovely mums, Harlee, who has suggested that we hold a casual event when families can bring their fish and chips, or picnic tea along to school and spend time together getting to know each other. This used to be an annual event at SFDS years ago, and we want to support Harlee in bringing it back!
Come and join us on Friday 13 December, between 4.30pm and 6.30pm.
"The Measure of Love is to Love Without Measure" - St Francis de Sales
Our patron saint, St Francis de Sales, shared a positive way of living and we continue to promote this ethos today.
We have now developed a school wellbeing model that draws on St Francis de Sales' ethos - implementing 'Te Whare Tapa Wha' (represented by our Waharoa), and the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing' (interwoven by our school values).
This model will help us to support healthy children and adults. The model also helps us to teach our school values to the children in the ways they take part in school life and beyond. We will share more details about the model over time.
Congratulations to the students who received a values certificate at school hui last week: Bethany B, Victoria C, Freddie M, Remus Y, Sofia B, Michael P, Andrew K, Gelila MC, Rose M, Lily M and Zoe F.
Inter Zone Athletics
All the students who will be participating in this event have been given a hard copy of the information and a schedule with their events highlighted. Please ask them for this if they haven't shown you. Here are the key details:
Tuesday 19 November (postponement - Thursday 21 November)
Newtown Park
Our zone is in charge of running the quoits, shot put, discus - please email Sarah on sarah.fountain@sfds.school.nz if you are able to help with this for all or part of the day.
All students attending need to be dropped straight to Newtown Park. We will have staff there from 8.45am.
We will have a bus going back to school at 2.45pm.
Your child/ren may go to school before and/or after their events - please remind them to sign in/out of the school office, and to also check in/out with a staff member at the park.
If your child/ren has your permission to walk home at 2.45pm, please email Sarah on sarah.fountain@sfds.school.nz
Wear school PE gear and bring packed morning tea, lunch (no lunch orders) and water bottle.
Community Day - for building whanaungatanga, community, family and support
On Friday 13 December, we are holding a number of events for the children and for families, to grow young leaders, strengthen community, build new relationships:
Year 8 students will part in a retreat at the Home of Compassion.
Year 6&7 students (including new students) will take part in a leadership day. Their parents will also be welcome to join us for the start of the morning, to meet, greet and learn a little about our intermediate programme.
Year 1-5 students will also spend a little of the day meeting their new classmates for 2025.
We are holding a fish and chips evening from 4.30 - 6.30pm in the courtyard - to which all whānau are invited.
Step Up for School Camp - great fundraiser in support of our senior students
Well done to Niamh, Mya and Miriam who have raised $260 so far in our 'Step up for Camp' fundraiser! Please support our senior students by getting involved with this fundraiser - helping to lower costs for their 2025 school camp. It is so easy, it is a great way to get the family involved and it is fun to track all those kms https://tinyurl.com/SFDScamp.
Feel overwhelmed by the challenge of 100km? Get the whole family to log into an app like google fit, use their smart watch or plot their commute on a map and count up the distance they travel every day. Collect the data regularly, add it on to the website and watch those kms quickly add up!
Does $100 feel like a big total, or you don't feel confident fundraising? The website does it all for you... Simply get a parent of guardian to hop online and help you build a profile. Let people know a bit about why you are fundraising and then get their help to share the link to your page on email and online.
Have 10 friends? Why don't you find a fun 10km walk to do together? A job shared is a job halved....
A family of 4 can do 5, 5km walks to hit the 100km. That is the same as walking from Island bay to Owhiro Bay and back again.
Thank you very much for your support.
