Title: Seton Hill's Legacy
Medium: Linocut print
Creator: Kenzi Rullo, Class of 2027
Within this linoleum print, the history of Seton Hill is explored by honoring Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton. A university with such a rich and strong history must be illustrated in a way that grasps its identity. Elizabeth Ann Seton was a woman that persevered through life’s challenges and kept her faith strong through it all. By establishing the Sisters of Charity, she brought free education and service to those in need. Having Elizabeth as the primary subject in this piece honors the foundation she provided for our university. With both the large, flat areas of ink and tight restrained lines, this dynamic print tells the story of both the past and the present. The imagery is encased by the lettering of the core liberal arts areas of study. The well-rounded education offered by Seton Hill University is a vital part in understanding its mission and identity. A balanced composition was created with the sharp and geometric lines of the university’s architecture next to the figural image of Mother Seton. The piece honors both the history of her life and the foundation of our university, while the architecture reminds us that the legacy of Seton Hill is within us and our structures today. In the combination of line and flatness, past and present, this dynamic print explores the historical and inspirational legacy of Seton Hill through our Mother Seton.
