Artist’s Reflection
This is a poem I wrote to reflect on a pretty common experience in my freshman year, especially during the Spring. A weeping cherry tree that sits in front of Havey Hall would bloom a beautiful pink. That tree sat right in front of my second floor window. Every day I woke up I would see that tree and it felt like a Sunday afternoon when you were a kid, where your dad was asleep with a football game or golf playing on the TV. There was also something else there in those moments. Maybe it was the beauty of the tree, or the fact that it was still my first year in college, but it felt like there was something there for me to do. In a somewhat melodramatic way, it felt like hope. Despite the “upgraded” dorm I received in my second year, it was those homey moments at Havey Hall that made freshman year special. Life and, of course, college come with stress and problems but my days spent looking out at that tree always made me feel there was more. That tree represented something bigger for me to do and be in life.
