Utah State Board of Education Standards for Instructional Paraeducators
These standards outline the knowledge and skills competencies necessary for instructional paraeducators to be effective. Supervision and training should be provided on these standards for instructional paraeducators.
Utah State Board of Education Paraeducator Manual
The USBE Paraeducator Manual is a resource for paraeducators and educators as a training and supervision resource for collaboration to support students. Information on each USBE Standard for Instructional Paraeducators and their competencies and considerations for Title I, Title III, special education, behavior, supervision and training, and model forms are provided.
Utah State Board of Education Paraeducator Canvas Course
This course offers six modules that can support paraeducator training. Each module has an estimated time for completion of 30 minutes. A certificate of completion is available for each module once the participant scores 100% on a final quiz.

Direct Step Paraeducator Modules (Special Education)
The Utah State Board of Education (USBE) offers online and asynchronous paraeducator courses from 5/17/2022 through 6/30/2024. These courses are available through a statewide partnership with Direct Specialized Training for Education Professionals® (DirectSTEP®). The LEA must submit the paraeducator as eligible to take up to 34 courses outside of work hours. Paraeducators are paid $20 per completed eligible course for up to 34 courses.

Paraeducator to Teacher Scholarship
Paraeducators pursuing an education in teaching can apply for a scholarship that provides funds to supplement tuition costs. Further information can be found on the PETTS Information Sheet. Paraeducators can apply through the PETTS Application Process by May 15 of each year.
