Hello, my name is Matthew. I'm a Senior at Serra High School looking to go into Computer Engineering. Part of computer engineering is making sure the products you work on are sustainable for the environment and other people. As part of a class at Serra, my friend Michael and I have started the Half Moon Bay Phoenix Project, where we collect old computers and refurbish them for donation to Senior Coastisders, a local senior center, and the Coastside Hope charity. Many of these computers would have just ended up in a landfill, but we were able to give them a new lease on life. I'm passionate about the problem of eWaste because of my interest in computers and the injustice that takes place countries around the world.
"Hi," Owen Huang
Hello, my name is Owen Huang, currently as of writing this on February 18th, 2021 I am a senior at Junipero Serra High School looking to working in the medical field. Part of working in the medical field is the general health of those around you. At Serra some of the classes I've been apart of have dealt with people in lower income areas and how they are impacted heavily in more ways than just not having basic needs like shelter, food, and clothing. As an aspiring medical student today's world is filled full with hazards that many of us don't see or get swept away and forgotten about. The issues with eWaste is that eWaste is considered hazardous material and a lot of eWaste is exported to other countries, and in these places people are working in very hazardous conditions with little to no protective equipment which puts that at great risk for health issues.
