How to use this resource:

This is a two-year professional learning series for your mathematics department. The first year is focused on learning about the TRU dimensions over the course of 13 department meetings in segments A-C. Year two will integrate the TRU dimensions with lesson study, with the intention of completing two full lesson study cycles, segments D & E.

Segment A: Getting to know TRU

Three Sessions

  • Learning about the Five TRU Dimensions - Looking at our own classroom
  • Comparing and Contrasting Student Experiences

Nine Sessions
  • Inquiry into The Mathematics (and Cognitive Demand) -- Launch | Plan | Debrief
  • Inquiry into Agency, Ownership, and Identity -- Launch | Plan | Debrief
  • Inquiry into Formative Assessment (and Equitable Access) -- Launch | Plan | Debrief

Segment C: Wrap-up of Year 1 (Matt fix this is only one session in segment C, currently listed as multi dimensions inquiry)

One Session
  • Sharing Findings and Nominating "Significant" Finding for Later Study
  • Discussing Findings from TRU Dimensions Inquiry and Multidimensional Inquiry
  • Considering Research Themes, Topics

Eight Sessions
  • 1. Prepare: Looking back at year 1 TRU inquiry to build our research theme
  • 2. Study: begin lesson study cycle
  • 3. Study: Investigate student thinking
  • 4. Study/Plan: Examine curriculum
  • 5. Plan: Research lesson planning
  • 6: Plan: Mock lesson and reflection
  • 7. Teach: Research lesson and post-lesson discussion
  • 8. Reflect: End of cycle reflection
