Gradebook Extras & suggestions

The following are recommendations for setting up your gradebook at the start of each term. To view all the suggestions in one slide deck, please click this button.

Student Name Display

Canvas shows students sorted alphabetically by last name by default, but displays names First Name - Last Name

If you prefer to view student names Last Name, First Name, you can change your display settings

Grade Totals

Display students’ overall grade total next to their name by pinning the grade total column

Please Note: We do NOT recommend manually sliding the grade total column as it will not “stick”

Section Toggle

View one section at a time (for combined courses)

Saved Filter Presets

Define frequently used filters to save time

Select Multiple Filters

Canvas now allows teachers to select more than one filter while in the grade book.

This will be especially helpful for teachers with double-stripped sections.
