Ceramics 1 at Menlo-Atherton High School is a foundation course in the visual arts where students learn basic skills in 3-dimensional design, including ceramics production, the creative process for visual arts and reflection through the creation of ceramic artwork. Students will become fluent in the academic visual arts language for ceramic arts, including the elements of art and principles of design through weekly practice in workbooks and through applying the art critique process to finished artworks. Students will be introduced to technical skills and tools that will assist them in creating ceramic artworks that are both functional and sculptural. Students will develop a visual arts aesthetic by exploring traditional and decorative art from various cultures.
