Summer Assignment Overview 

Hello and welcome to APUSH! The APUSH teaching team (Ms. Lavoie is the team lead) is very excited to get to know you and explore the AP U.S. History curriculum with you during the 2025-2026 school year. 

The first thing you will need to do is to get a copy of the textbook Fabric of a Nation from the library/textbook room before the summer begins.

We have a couple primary goals for this summer assignment: 

• Introduce the APUSH content 

  • Your summer work will focus on Period 1 (1491-1607) and Period 2 (1607-1754) of the course content 

• Give you an opportunity to practice your core APUSH skills, including note-taking, multiple choice test taking skills and writing.

Your summer assignment is due Wednesday, August 13, 2025. Be prepared for an assignment check and full multiple choice exam in the first week of school. 

Part A: Reading and Note-taking

To develop an understanding of key themes, concepts and skills in Period 1 and Period 2 of the content, please complete the assigned reading. As you read, please take careful notes (refer to note-taking guide).

Part B: Skill Pratice

We would also like you to engage with some of the major skills from APUSH.  You will practice with multiple choice questions and brainstorming for writing prompts.

At the end of the summer, check this list to make sure you've done everything you needed to do.

Did I...

• Read and take notes on Modules 1.3, 1.4, and 2.1-2.9 (excluding 2.8)?

• Watch the 2 Heimler videos on multiple choice strategies?

• Answer the 36 multiple choice questions (18 at the end of Period 1 and 18 at the end of Period 2)?

• Write three brainstorming lists (one for each theme)?
