Summer Assignment Overview 

Hello and welcome to APUSH! The APUSH teaching team (Ms. Lavoie, Mr. Harris and Ms. Ramroth) are very excited to get to know you and explore the AP U.S. History curriculum with you through the 2023-2024 school year. We will have brand new textbooks for this upcoming school year, but they will not arrive until August. Until then, we will be utilizing a digital version. If you would prefer to read a hard copy version for the summer reading, you may choose to purchase a copy of the Fabric of a Nation textbook online. 

 We have a couple primary goals for this summer assignment: 

• Introduce the APUSH content 

  • Your summer work will focus on Period 1 (1491-1607) and Period 2 (1607-1754) of the course content 

• Give you an opportunity to practice your note-taking skills, using one of two approaches

Your summer assignment is due Wednesday, August 16, 2023. Be prepared for a quiz that week. 

Your summer assignment consists of two parts: 

Part A: Reading

To develop an understanding of key themes, concepts and skills in Period 1 and Period 2 of the content, please complete the assigned reading. As you read, please take careful notes (refer to Part B)

Part B: Note-taking

As you read, please take thorough notes, using one of two methods. It is vital that you actively engage with the reading, rather than simply skimming over the material. This is an important skill to hone throughout the year.
