Learning @ Home

KIA ORA E TE WHĀNAU AND WELCOME TO OUR LEARNING @ HOME SUPPORT PAGE

You will find learning activities under reading, writing and maths as well as hands on learning. There are some great ideas from the Ministry of Education on how parents can help with learning at home.

We are now supporting Learning @ Home as of Wednesday 15 April 2020 (Term 2)

This is a challenging time for all New Zealanders. Your hauora and that of your tamariki is the number 1 priority.

Our approach to Learning @ Home during Alert Level 4 has been designed to support our learners to continue to learn based on what is realistic and manageable for them and you while at home.

We understand that not all whanau have devices or connectivity (access to the internet). It is hoped that the Ministry of Education is able to support whanau around this as they announced last week. As a school, we will make a post via Facebook and our App for those students that normally complete aspects of their learning on a school-owned Chromebook.

We are here to support our learners to do what they can from:

  • the packs that many of you picked up from school prior to lockdown (school is locked down so no additional packs can be distributed at this time)

  • the activities on the Selwyn School Learning @ Home site - linked off our school website www.selwynschool.school.nz

  • hardcopy (paper-based) activities you may receive from the Ministry of Education

  • The Ministry of Education sites: Learning at Home and Ki Te Ao Marama

  • The two TV channels on Freeview that have 6 hours of content being played in English and Maori covering a range of curriculum content

To further support Learning @ Home, our teachers will be available to answer questions, queries and to give guidance to the learning activities. Teachers;

  • are available between 9-11am and 1-3pm for first point of contact on school days

  • will respond to emails and hold Google Hangout conversations

  • are flexible within these timeframes - they will respond to all contacts made during this time. By responding, it is meant that all contacts are replied to. Some queries/questions will be sorted, others will see you making an alternative time.

Please see the link TEACHER EMAIL at the top of this page or STAFF TERM 2 2020 on the nav bar of our school website.

Take care whanau
