This policy defines the supported browsers and workflows for accessing the Evergreen ILS and clarifies the division of responsibility between SELCO and member libraries. Its goal is to ensure reliable system behavior, consistent support, and clear expectations when browser-related issues arise.
This policy applies to all member libraries accessing Evergreen through a web browser on SELCO installed or supported PCs or locally managed workstations.
Evergreen is a web-based application and can function correctly in modern browsers when used in supported ways. The supported browser depends on how the workstation is used, particularly whether staff switch browser profiles during the day.
If staff do not switch browser profiles on a workstation:
A single browser profile is used consistently
Evergreen may be used in Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome
Local Evergreen settings, including workstation-level settings such as print configuration and templates, are expected to persist normally
In this scenario, either browser is considered supported.
If staff do switch browser profiles on a workstation (for example, signing in and out of Chrome profiles to check email or access other services):
A separate, dedicated browser must be used for Evergreen
That browser must use one consistent profile that is not switched during the day
The supported workflow in this scenario is:
One browser (typically, but not required to be, Google Chrome) used for:
General web browsing
Staff work outside of Evergreen
A second, dedicated browser (typically Mozilla Firefox) used only for Evergreen, with:
No browser profile switching
No use for general web browsing or email
Following this workflow ensures stable Evergreen functionality and that persistent local workstation settings—including printer settings, templates, and other locally stored configurations—are retained.
Evergreen stores certain workstation-level settings (such as print configuration and templates) in the browser’s local site data.
Modern browsers intentionally isolate local data by:
Browser profile
User login
Private/incognito sessions
As a result:
Switching browser profiles causes Evergreen’s local settings to be unavailable
Print and workstation settings will not persist across profile changes
This behavior is expected browser behavior and is not a defect in Evergreen. It is controlled by the browser vendor and cannot be altered by SELCO, Equinox, or Evergreen.
SELCO does not provide ongoing troubleshooting or remediation for issues caused by:
Switching browser profiles in the same browser used for Evergreen
Using Evergreen across multiple browser profiles on a shared workstation
Clearing browser cache, cookies, or site data as part of normal workstation use
Browser extensions, security software, or local OS user profiles
Issues isolated to a single workstation
Issues that do not occur in a clean or private/incognito session
When these conditions are present and Evergreen functions correctly elsewhere, the issue is considered local to the workstation and outside the scope of ILS support.
Losing locally stored settings (including printer settings) when switching profiles in a browser is expected behavior, not a system defect.
SELCO will not reconfigure individual workstations beyond supported guidance.
Persistent workstation settings are maintained only when following the supported browser and workflow guidance.
Using unsupported workflows may cause settings to be lost and is outside SELCO support.
SELCO will:
Support Evergreen functionality and availability
Verify whether an issue is system-wide or local
Provide guidance for supported browsers and workflows
Assist with initial setup of a supported configuration
SELCO will not:
Reconfigure individual workstations beyond supported guidance
Modify browser behavior controlled by third-party vendors
Provide repeated troubleshooting for known, documented browser limitations
Member libraries are responsible for:
Selecting workflows that align with supported browser behavior
Following supported browser and workflow guidance
Providing local IT or vendor support for workstation-level issues
Accepting the operational impact of unsupported workflows
When an issue is identified as a known browser limitation:
The root cause will be documented in the support ticket
A supported workflow will be identified
The ticket may be closed once the limitation and supported options are explained
Continued use of an unsupported workflow does not constitute an Evergreen defect.
SELCO staff are available to:
Help libraries transition to supported workflows
Assist with setup of a dedicated Evergreen browser
Provide clarification on this policy
This policy is intended to promote clarity, consistency, and effective support across all member libraries.
