The English department is an exciting and stimulating place to learn. We offer many different activities beyond the classroom and work closely with the Learning Resource Centre. During Year 7, you will study stories and poetry about growing up, as well as writing about your own experiences. You will read about children who live in different parts of the world and consider the experiences they have. You will enjoy different forms of poetry as well as study a modern play, writing your own scenes and using performance skills to explore the issues presented. Over the year, you will have the chance to write for different purposes and audiences.
We have many competitions, including FAST FICTION, a sponsored Readathon, and Extreme Reading Challenge. We also have clubs to come along to, such as debating, creative writing and reading groups. This year, you will have the opportunity to develop your reading skills, which will help you unlock your potential in the future, through our Accelerated Reader scheme.

3. Practice your speaking and listening skills by insulting someone like Shakespeare!
Create your own insult and experiment with your delivery: try whispering, shouting, laughing at the same time, you could mix it with a Shakespearean gesture of biting your thumb at someone at the same time.
Watch
How many of you have seen a live performance of a Shakespearean play?
Why not watch A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Shakespeare’s audience wouldn’t have had popcorn; they would have had nuts and fruit. You, however, can eat what you like as long as you don’t make too much noise. Fortunately, you don’t have to be rich to spend a penny for a bucket if you need the loo.
Enjoy the show!
