Children have now been given their reading diaries to take home. These diaries are used to record their daily reading and they must be signed by an adult each day as evidence of this.
As all children are in different phonics groups, please fill in the diary based on your child’s phonics level.
If your child brings a weekly reading book home:
Record their daily reading using that book. You can comment on their fluency, words they were able to decode, and red words (common exception words) they could or could not read for that story. If your child finishes the book quickly, please read it together a few more times to help build fluency. Afterwards, you can ask simple comprehension questions to develop their understanding of the story.
If your child is not bringing a reading book home yet:
Please watch the online phonics videos to practise the sounds instead. Comment on how well your child engaged with the videos and whether they need more practice or are ready to move on to the next set of sounds.
Thank you for supporting your child’s reading journey at home!
Phonics homework will be as normal under the phonics tab - separate to the Reception tab - please make sure you access both.
Phonics homework and practice at home is essential in order for your child to make rapid progress towards reading.
Below are the Set 1 'red words' or 'tricky words' for children to learn by sight, as they cannot be sounded out.
