Enhancing strong connections across the Pacific
Enhancing strong connections across the Pacific
The SCSCA Association was founded in 1980 by a group of volunteers seeking to improve the people-to-people connections between Seattle, USA, and Christchurch, New Zealand. Through sister city programs, grassroots citizen groups and local governments work together to promote international understanding and goodwill through person-to-person contacts. Out of the exchange of ideas and shared experiences, true friendships develop.
Pou Whenua Creation at the Seattle Arboretum
We are raising funds to have a Maori scupture artist, Caine Tauwhare, create a village pole, a Pou Whenua, to welcome visitors to the NZ Forest here in Seattle. The Arboretum Native American Advisory has approved the design and placement, and the artist, Caine is currently completing the carving. We will have a ceremonial installation this Spring (May or June) 2026. This is a beautiful connection between our two beloved countries. We have reached 95% of our $10,000 goal with $500 more to be raised. You can make your contribution now by clicking the button below.
