My project is called "Inhabiting Partitions" . The project is based in Sangamner which is a town situated in the Sahyadris in western Maharashtra. We have been going through this pandemic for 1 an half year now. So there has been many changes around. Observation I made were how people adapt to there surrounding. The site which I observed for my intervention was a wedding which was been converted into a quarantine centre.
The site of intervention is a cuboidal hall of 1220sq ft. The people from near by villages who could not get bed due to non availability of beds in hospital were accommodated in the hall. The place occupies around 105 bed for covid patients. It had all the minimal requirements like toilets and bathroom. Food and basic medication.
The beds were closely arranged and there was no partitions between patients. There they did not have privacy. The clinical space was also not enough for the doctor to take there daily rounds. The belongings of the patients were either on the floor or on the bed. There was no such place to keep their stuff. These were the areas where I am intervening. The basic site strategy was to lay out partition along the grid in the hall. The Idea was to make scaler interventions in this hall in order to make it multipurpose.
The programmes decided was a Partition device, opd, take away meals space and waiting space for this programs. The space was divided in such a way that it can be used in various ways keeping in mind above programmes . Plus there is enough space for people to follow social distancing norms. The Idea was to keep the actual use of the hall as an open space by making the partitions movable and keeping the doors wide.
Keeping in mind the anthropometric measurements my partitions included sitting space and, storage shelves . The syntax formed was a 2.4 m x 2.4 m box unit with varying depth. These units were built for various activities. A sitting space, a storage unit, a table were arranged in the unit by making depths and openings at different levels.
The design contained a total of six units, Which can be arranged in various ways throughout the hall. Considering the clinic space and a Takeaway meal programme I laid out the positions of these partitions. Since these partitions are movable they can be arranged in different ways, and also can be taken out or stacked beside the wall when not in use.
