LOCATION- RACINE, WISCONSIN, USA
ARCHITECT- FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT
YEAR CONSTRUCTED- 1936-39, 1944-50
The Great Workroom supported by 60 columns whose diameters increase from 23 cms to 5.5 m as they reach the ceiling.
The Research tower was made 10 years after the Administrative Hall.
Around 200 types of bricks of different measurements were specially made for the structure.
The square and circular slabs were placed alternately providing it a higher ceiling.
The SC Johnson Wax Building has two major parts- The Administrative Hall and The Research and Development Tower.
The curvilinear form of the entire building is an important part of the design.
The Central Core of the Research Tower contained the Elevator and other exhaust pipes and supported the entire tower making it an important cantilever building of that time.
Diameter of the columns is less at the bottom increasing the floor space and there are no partitions between the departments.
