Space of a Dream
The phenomena here are the feeling of being stuck/still and the feeling of calmness while being in a dreamlike space.
Looking through Transluscencies
The phenomenon here is the layering of varying translucencies, through layering different textures of materials.
Phenomena
Looking at Andrei Tarkovsky’s movie, The Mirror, there were two phenomena that were identified
A dream space where someone feels stuck, yet calm at the same time.
The phenomenon of layering of varying translucencies, through layering different textures of materials.
The principle of the apparatus thus developed from these observations. It followed the principle of a periscope which allows one to see the logic of reflection, refraction, and distortion using mirroring and layering.
Apparatus Iterations
The process then began by conducting experiments where one could try and fragment a body using these mirrors, textures, and transparencies eventually becoming the idea of the apparatus. Simultaneously, the principles observed from physical experiments were then given a form of a Pavillion, through the use of material renderings provided by software like Rhino.
Final Apparatus
The final apparatus becomes an interactive one where one stands in front of the apparatus and has their body fragmented while bringing in different aspects of the environment around into the fragmentation.

Pavillion
Closeup Images of the Pavilion
The form of the pavilion is derived from these planes which would get arranged together to bring in the experience of the apparatus. A person can now inhabit these planes. There are moments when someone standing on the higher planes can see someone standing on the lower planes simply through the arrangement of the periscope mirrors. It would also generate an experience of an exquisite corpse when one body fragments to merge with another while bringing in the surroundings.

Site
Hiranandani Lawns, which is in Hiranandani, Powai was selected as a site for the pavilion. The site provided a combination of different structures and green scapes as surrounding elements. The site has two sides where the passers-by on the parallel streets can visually engage with the artist's work in progress.
Three sides of the site.

Designing Process
1.Collage Iterations
Considering the principles observed through the iterative process of the apparatuses and pavilions, along with the specific surroundings provided by the site; a set of spatial collages were made. These collages tried to bring in the ideas of fragmentation of oneself along with the surroundings, breaking the notions of perception of a space through only four sides. They also helped in blurring the boundaries of the spaces by juxtaposing inside and outside activities
2.Program deploying the design
Through these collages, and its emerging spatial experience, the program of an Artist studio was found to be suitable. Where the multiple reflections could keep the space visually connected by allowing the artists as well as the passers to peep into the art processes. The artists selected were Textile artists, Sculpture artists, and Painting artists. Considering the different space requirements of the three artists three primary box-shaped studios were designed.
Textile Artists (red): 4 studios
Sculpture making artists (white): 4 studios
Canvas painters (blue): 4 studios
3.Final Design
The whole design was then articulated as pockets of common gathering spaces, which could be the exhibition spaces (in blue), lounge areas (in orange), cafeterias (in green), and administration spaces (in red). As a navigation path, a corridor (in purple) was designed which would give direct access to some places whilst just a visual connection to others. This corridor acts as an intermediate level, sometimes looking into the spaces or over places, or even just a reflection of an artist working inside their studio. The Studios are then placed along this corridor and offset either above or below it so that the corridor also acts as a horizon. The facades of these studios were then modified according to their surroundings to create spaces of repose as they try to fragment or juxtapose one's surroundings.
