The Coastal Road is planned to stretch along the western coastline of Mumbai, connecting the southern end of Marine Drive (Queen's Necklace) near Nariman Point. Worli Sea face is a popular and prominent promenade located in the Worli neighborhood of Mumbai. The coastal road is disrupting the ecosystem of the thriving marine and land species of the neighborhood.
Apart from providing a view of the Worli Sea Face and Sea Link, the promenade, at times, might host flea markets or pop-up shops selling handicrafts, clothes, and other items, adding to the lively atmosphere.
The biophilic walk has a stone path with trees around. It promotes learning with seminar spaces. Artistic activities like sketching and painting are encouraged here. Families can enjoy exploration and play, fostering learning.
Proposed Design
Intent: To design ecologically friendly space for the neighborhood by also educating them about the ecologies that existed and also proposing to bring them back with also having interactive spaces across the generation gaps.
User Groups: kids/toddlers, students, Senior citizens.
Key programs: Ramps for the differently abled, Sea-viewing promenade, Biophilic gravelled walkway, Educational and hangout spaces, Interactive spaces for senior citizens and children, Low maintenance fresh water fish pond.
Introducing a small freshwater fishpond encourages learning for the childern, helps one relax through meditation and makes an interesting public space. It also supports fish breeding, artistic inspiration for photography or painting, birdwatching, and complements garden care, creating a serene and vibrant outdoor space.
Furthermore, the interactive spaces include festive spaces, a large and engaging skatepark to anchor skateboarding competitions aand attract skaters from around the city and a play area for children.
