Approval Drawings include drawings that are reviewed by competent authorities-in-charge (municipal authorities, civic bodies) to scrutinise whether the proposal complies with rules and regulations as prescribed within the byelaws.

As-Built Drawings are updated sets of drawings that a contractor submits after the project is finished. They offer an accurate picture of the finished project and take into account all changes and revisions made during the construction process.

Architrave  interior moldings fitted around a door frame or a window. They allow you to hide door joints and other rough surfaces by acting as a trim where the joints meet the walls or the floor.

Arches are structures constructed in curved shapes with wedge-shaped units either made up of bricks or stones, which are joined together with mortar and provided at openings to support the weight of the wall above it along with other superimposed loads.

Batten are long, thin strips of wood or metal that are attached horizontally to the rafters or trusses of a roof. They provide a surface for attaching the roofing materials.

Bay windows are windows that protrude outward from an external wall.

Binders are timber joists at the base of the beams to strengthen them.

Boarding is the process of fixing boards on the outer frame of a house, as a facing or on the floor, as a structural member.

Brise Soliel is a solar shading system that uses a series of horizontal or vertical blades as an extension of the facade to control the amount of sunlight and solar heat that enters a building.

Brownfield Project  means land that has been used previously but is lying vacant or unused now. This land could have been contaminated by industrial waste or hazardous waste or might have suspected oil contamination.

Building Bylaws are regulations established by the government to ensure the safety,  transparency, and uniformity of construction activities in the state. They provide guidelines and standards for both residential and commercial properties.

Built-Up Area is the total area enclosed by the walls which also includes the carpet area, thickness of walls, and other inaccessible areas that are part of the space.

Base Plate acts as an interface between the superstructure and the foundation

Bullnose is a rounded or obtuse exterior angle, as the corner made by two walls, a structural member, such as a brick, is used in forming such an angle.

Blistering in concrete refers to the formation of small, raised areas or bubbles on the surface of a concrete structure. This phenomenon occurs when entrapped air or water vapor becomes trapped beneath the concrete surface during the curing process. The pressure from the expanding air or vapor creates blisters or bubbles.

C

Camber a slight convexity, arching, or curvature (as of a beam, deck, or road)

Carpet Area refers to the actual usable space within a property, including the thickness of the internal wall and balcony, excluding the thickness of external walls.  It represents the area on which one can place a carpet.

Casement Windows are windows that are attached by one or more hinges at the side. They are held open using casement stay and often can be used singly or in pairs within a common frame.

Casing Capping is a method where PVC insulated wires are placed in plastic casings and covered with a PVC cap. The casing and capping system is suitably used for household wiring, wire distribution, protection to other wiring systems, in offices, and in electrical devices with low voltage use.

Castone floor also known as a hollow core slab consists of hollow precast concrete blocks that have lower self-weight and higher concrete strength.

Center Line marks the center of a column. A centerline plan is composed of a grid of such comparable lines for several columns. Centerline diagrams make it easier to comprehend the precise location of a column on the construction site.

Chajja is an overhanging eave or roof.

Commencement Certificate is a legal document issued by the local authority to authorize the developer/builder to start the construction of the project.

Completion Certificate indicates that the structure is completed meeting all the legal requirements of safety and is in accordance with the agreed-upon specifications and standards

Conduits are used to protect and route the electrical wirings and can be used internally as well as externally.

Coping is an upstand provided on top of a wall to drain off the water and give weather protection to the wall below it. It may be made up of different materials like stone, brick, terracotta, concrete, castone, metal, etc.

Couplers are components that connect two reinforcing bars in the longitudinal direction, forming a mechanical splice.

Drop Panel are the rectangular portion provided above the column and below the slab in order to restrict slab from getting sheared and undergo rupture. The drop panel increases the contact surface area between the column and slab, which will enable a better distribution of load from slab to column. Thus, it will reduce the chance of slab failure due to unbalanced moments.

Cinder Filling in Drop Slab refers to the use of cinder, which is a lightweight aggregate material, to fill the voids within the thicker perimeter section of the slab. This filling helps enhance the strength and stability of the slab while reducing its overall weight.
