TPHS Learning Academy

Mrs. Sisti & Ms. Packer

Welcome to TPHS Learning Academy!

The Learning Academy (LA) Staff is looking forward to working with you this year. Our goal is to provide students with an educational opportunity that is academically rigorous, enriching, engaging, and encouraging. We work with families preparing students to be successful, independent life-long learners. Your keys to success at Torrey Pines High School are positive effort, work completion, and organization.

What is the Learning Academy?

The Learning Academy is a support period where students have the ability to work on various academic, social, and behavioral skills. LA class is a period where students can get their homework done, but it also very much more than that! LA activities will vary from day to day as well as from student to student. LA time may be used for (but is not limited to): frontloading, re-teaching of new and previous concepts, test preparation, assessment proctoring, homework completion, project and large assignment completion, assistance with organization, independence skills, self-advocacy, transition preparation, social skills development, access to related service providers (OT, AT, SLP, counseling, etc.), and individualized goal progress.

The Learning Academy is also a unique accommodation provided to students who need additional help or “time away” from core classes. This means that if a student needs various levels of help during a core class, s/he can access the Learning Academy throughout the school day to receive additional support. Students may be assigned a specific period of LA, but are able to access the LA whenever there is a need for additional support using a LA pass.

Learning Academy Pass

Students will be given a Learning Academy Pass that can be used to gain access to the Learning Academy if they feel overwhelmed, need to calm down, take a break, and/or to get help with work that is challenging.

Teacher-Parent Communication

Communication between the home and school is a vital link in creating a successful education experience. If parents/guardians have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call before school from 7:00-7:30am and/or after school from 2:45-4:00pm. Email has a 24-48 hour business day response time.
