Three weeks left untl the 2021-2022 school year is over. Seniors are ready to graduate, AP tests are nearly over and students are more than ready for summer. Theres a lot to look forward too but what about looking back? For the first time in a while, school finally feels like it's going to have a normal ending to the year without masks.
During the school year, students schedules are packed with sports, homework and managing their schedules. Senior Brooke Dunphy says, " I took five AP classes, and two art classes this year, and I'm finishing with a good gpa. I've passed all my classes and i'm ready to graduate". Dunphy has finished all four years of high school at LCC and is committed to Cal Poly.
As teachers assign the school year's last tests and projects, the end of the year is one of the hardest times to stay motivated. "I feel like I am starting to burned out but I just need to pull through and make time for the assignments I have," says sophomore Brooke Blair. Avoiding burn out is crucial to finish the year strong. Creating time to have breaks is just as important as making time for study.
School isn't all stressful though, LCC has a very vibrant social life and many sports teams. Making new friends is something to look forward too when starting a new school year. "I made a lot of new friends this year. I moved here from Connecticut in August not knowing anyone, but now I have friends to eat lunch with and hangout with after school", says Blair. I also recently moved here and and looking back I have made many friends through my classes and new sports I've tried.
"This is my fourth year as varsity captain of the swim team. its been a great way for me to get to know people and make a lot of friends and I'm going to continue swimming in college," says Dunphy. Joining sports teams and clubs have been great ways to get to know others. Some students may feel that they didnt end the year they wanted too but thats ok. Setting goals for the next school year such as, having better time managment or having better communication with your teachers could have signifigant changes when it comes to grades and managing stress.
In regards to the end of the year, students should also feel like they have closure. A good way to feel closure before summer is to self reflect on what your proud of. "I am most proud of my work ethic and my ability to stay on top of my work. It has been very difficult for me this year because of the five hours of dance I have a day, so the fact that I have had stable grades through it all makes me proud", says Blair.
Throughout the year, teachers work just as hard in their classes and with their students. Personally, I would like to thank my english teacher Mr. Martin for always engaging in class and making it an enjoyable environment to be in. The end of the year is the perfect time to give thanks to your teachers. Now it is the time to take a deep breath, finish the year strong and enjoy summer as a well deserved break.
