Sociology is the study of cultures, human behaviors, and human interactions. It is a diverse subject offered at La Costa Canyon that ranges from crime to religion. Sociology builds us a better understanding of social causes and human behaviors.
LCC Sociology is an academic elective where students are able to learn about human nature through field trips, documentaries, group projects, as well as group discussions. It is an especially popular class amongst juniors and seniors, specifically those interested in majoring in Sociology or Psychology.
Senior Bella DeAngelis expressed why she took this class in hopes of it being a stepping stone for her future as a Psychology major and to broaden her understanding before diving into her major.
"I want to be a Psychology major . Psychology and Sociology are kind of intertwined and I am hoping to learn more about human interaction through sociology class before I begin my college studies," said DeAngelis.
Another aspect of this class that catches students' attention is the interactive field trips and hands-on projects that students are given the opportunity to participate in.
Senior Sydney Gold states how the field trips have benefitted her understanding of the subject of sociology and how future field trips will do the same.
"We took a field trip to the Museum of Us and it was all focused on interactions of cavemen and different centuries, which is something we've also studied in class. We also have plans to go to a Buddhist Temple to study Buddhism because we are doing a unit on religion right now," said Gold.
Those interested in learning more about human interaction, or sociology specifically, are recommended to take a further look into this class and see what a student can learn from it and how beneficial it is to one's growth in understanding humans and their place in the world.
Senior Bella DeAngelis says why she would recommend this class to students and why.
"I recommend taking it because it is a super fun class and you get to learn a lot about different cultures and religions, as well as more about society," says DeAngelis.
Sociology is a well-rounded class that covers a great amount about human behavior. And it is fun too.
