GSA
Thank you for an amazing year!
GSA
Gender Sexuality Alliance, or GSA, is an LCC club that supports members of the LGBTQ+ community all over campus by giving them resources and support. Emma Grossheim, a senior, is the president of GSA.
"We have worked with a few not-for-profits and local organizations. We just went to a movie premiere with them, which was really fun for many of the members. We work closely with them to ensure everything is going right within our district and that we're doing what we can to ensure our students are seen. We also work with the North County Resource Center, and they come to visit us once or twice a year. We make sure that we have resources we need for students if they're in a dangerous situation because of their gender or sexuality, um, we want to make sure that they have the resources that they need to seek the help that, you know, could be life-saving," said Grossheim.
There have been many memorable accomplishments that GSA has made, but in Emma's humble opinion, one of the largest accomplishments the club has made is staying a club itself.
"This isn't, like, our biggest achievement, like, on paper. But, when I took charge of the club at the beginning of last year, we literally had three members. Like, we barely made it through anything. And now we're 20-plus strong. And I like the fact that there are people who want to be there. It's just the biggest thing to me. Well, I mean in a more comedic light I'm low key dictator of the GSA I have to bully people sometimes and to like stay focused cuz like we're all like we're all really close with each other. So It's sometimes hard for us to stay focused on the task at hand, so, a little bit of a bully," said Grossheim.
Emma also spoke out on how the perception of GSA can be a struggle.
"I think our perception of our club is the hardest thing we've had to overcome. There's often an association with queer students at our school and like being the weird ones or like the furries or everything like that. And to a true extent, but in a much more real sense, we're a bunch of different people, and we're just here to support. So I think people's personal perceptions of our club is the hardest part," said Grossheim.
The club is only growing with time, with many exciting plans for the future.
"We're doing a tie-dye shirt fundraiser soon. So I must figure out how we will pay for all the shirts. I'm really excited about that because there are 60 in our account right now. So I'm really excited to have more than 60 bucks. We also have I need to set up everything for next year. Now that I'm graduating, I need to make sure that we have people who want to continue to support the club and keep it on the track that it's on," said Grossheim.
If GSA speaks to you, don't hesitate to join the club. Club rush was just on Wednesday, so it is never to late to join!
