Mission Fed Credit Union chooses a few outstanding athletes each year to recognize and highlight their talent and hard work. One of the chosen athlete's this year is La Costa Canyon's own Caden Gluhak. He was recognized for his work with water polo in and outside the school environment.
"The Mission Fed student athlete of the year is an award given by CIF San Diego Section and Mission Fed Credit Union to recognize athletes who are demonstrate both academic and athletic leadership. I got recognition when my high school coach Grant Harrington wrote an application for the award in which he recommended myself," said Gluhak.
Caden plays water polo in the 4-5 position for the high school team, and center for the Del Mar Water Polo Club. He has set and accomplished multiple goals for himself that has allowed him to be recognized for his talents.
"I set several goals throughout high school and club water polo seasons. Among many goals I set for myself the most significant ones were achieving 2nd team all league my freshman year in high school season, achieving Offensive MVP my Sophomore year, making the Pacific Southwest Zone Team (top 16 selected players in North San Diego and east county areas) for ODP (Olympic Development Program), and being a strong and successful team captain my junior year. Setting and achieving all of these goals throughout my high school and club seasons is what has built myself up to this point. One goal I have in my sports career is to lead the high school team to a CIF Championship next season. Another is to improve my defensive anticipation," said Gluhak.
Caden started playing water polo because of a friend. His love for the sport only grew from there.
"I started playing the sport because one of my friends convinced me to play. I love water polo because it is very fast paced and I love being the water," said Gluhak.
Overall, Gluhak's hard work and determination, along with academic achievements helped him be recognized for the Mission Fed Credit Union Student Athlete of the Year.
