2022 Recap

2022 was a year of many new changes. From pop culture to government decisions, we have seen it all. As 2023 begins, let's take a moment to look back on everything that has happened in the past 365 days. I always prefer to start with the bad before the good, so let's start with some of the bad things that have happened in the past year.

The year started off strong with inflation surges all around the world. We saw some of the highest gas prices ever and many companies were forced to increase prices on their products due to this change.

Later, Russia invaded Ukraine, a war that still continues, and have made a countless number of innocent lives lost. The invasion begin on February 24th, and causes millions of people to be displaced, along with a global crisis for both food and energy.

On June 24th, the US Supreme Court overturned abortion rights, causing millions of women's constitutional right to abortion being taken away. It was certainly a controversial debate.

There were also record breaking heat waves all around the world, due to the rapid change in climate. From fires to melting glaciers, it seemed that no one was free from the heat.

On September 8th, Queen Elizabeth II of England passed away. She died at the age of 96 after having the throne for 70 years. This made her the world's longest running monarch ever.

Protests in Iran broke out. This resulted in several expectations and many innocent lives being turned upside down. Women started to take off their Hijabs and cut there hair, an extreme and brave act of rebellion, and were returned with large amounts of violence.

Moving  to happier topics are things happening in all different areas. This includes new acts of inclusion, and whats new in pop culture. 

Victoria Secret hired their first model with down syndrome. Having such a large brand represent more inclusive groups is a huge step towards an inclusive world.

The FIFA World Cup was held later in the year, and was won by Argentina. It's also important to remember and note the unethical ways the stadiums around Qatar were built. Many lives were lost.

Large musical artists such as Beyonce, Taylor Swift and Harry Styles released new albums. Some other mentionable artists were The Arctic Monkeys, The Weekend, The 1975, and Mitski. 

The last mention that is somewhat neutral is that the world reached over 8 billion people. Wow!

With every new year, it's important to remember all the things that has happened in the past, so we can improve moving into the future. Like every year, 2022 was a mix of good and bad, hopefully to everyone reading, there was more good for you. Happy new year!
