La Costa Canyon offers students a variety of opportunities especially in the aspect of clubs. Clubs are a great way for students to get involved, meet new people, and learn new skills.
Here at LCC, one unique club is, The Stocks Club. The Stocks Club’s premise is to teach students who are interested in economics, the ways of the stock market and investing. Senior Ashley Carroll, and president of the club has been a member since her sophomore year. She describes the club as a great environment to meet new people with similar interests.
“Stocks Club is about getting together with other students on campus who also have an interest in the stock market and investing to learn more about managing finances and the economy,” says Carroll.
The stock market can be challenging to understand and manage. This club creates a friendly environment the first Wednesday of each month to enjoy snacks and check in on the latest investment opportunities. Currently, the club is working on their first investment of the year, following stocks such as: Netflix, Tesla, Valvoline, and Apple. The club strives to identify stocks that are on the upward climb in the economy.
“We meet once a month to talk about current stock market news. We are currently watching the market and voting on a stock to invest in as a group. People are welcome to invest as little or as much money as they want,” explains Carroll.
This is the third year of the stocks club at LCC and they are continuing to maintain their hard work and dedication to their interest in the economy. Current and previous members are invested in Microsoft and Alibaba, which has fluctuated both positively and negatively over the past few years, teaching members the realities of the market.
This is a welcoming club for both experienced and inexperienced students looking to dive deeper into the world of the economy and manage financial situations. The club expands on important life skills that can benefit students significantly in the future.
“The club is open to anyone, and is a fun and easy way to get involved in investing. The club is excited to watch our investments grow and hopefully make some money when the year ends,” says Club President Carroll.
Students must be prepared for the endless possibilities of growth and drops in the market. Those interested in learning more about the stock market should join the stocks club, especially if they want to learn how to make their money work for them.
