Thank you for an amazing year!
Staying sober is an essential factor in achieving a successful high school career. Students at LCC have volunteered themselves to visit local Elementary schools in the district to explain why its important to stay alcohol and drug free. Here are some of those students from the Teen Presenters Program to emphasize the benefits of maintaining the role of a sober student in high school.
Benjamin Wiley: I am drug and alcohol free because I really like to challenge myself to be the best person I can be. I want to be the best athlete, friend, employee, and son I can be. I know that drugs and alcohol can only limit my potential. I want to live the life I want to live and not be influenced by drugs that would control me. Staying sober has benefited me to win regional titles and remain very successful in my sport. I've been able to take over 10 college level courses. I've been able to live up to my true potential.
Albert Zomorrodian: I am drug and alcohol free because luckily, I've never had someone in my family use drugs and alcohol, but I know that it has detrimental affects on our body. I was taught that at a young age and I didn't really want that to affect me when I'm out doing things, like riding my bike. Staying sober has benefited me because I take a lot of AP and IB courses, I also have a great job at Scripps. I wouldn't be able to do this if I was using substances and alcohol.
Madeleine Morris: I am drug and alcohol free because a lot of people in my extended family do drugs and alcohol. Unfortunately, both my grandparents passed away from smoking. My cousin went down a really bad path with drinking alcohol and my family and I were really worried about him. I think its a selfless to stay away from drugs, alcohol, and tobacco. Staying sober has benefited me because my grades remain high and I'm able to see improvement within my academics. I think that its helped me become a better person because I'm not tainted by any other substances. I can just be myself.
Emma Heiser: I am drug and alcohol free for many reasons. One of them being that alcohol runs in my family and I've seen how family members are affected by addiction. I don't want to go down that path and risk everything. I've kept a really clear mind, maintained good grades, remained strong and healthy. I don't want to to throw it all away. Staying sober has benefited me because I don't have to have the weight of addiction on my shoulders, its not something I have to think about all the time. My family doesn't have to worry about me or my friends. Its a selfless thing to do, to stay drug and alcohol free. I wouldn't want anyone to worry about me. I have control over my own decisions, I choose to stay sober.
Joselyn Blough: I am drug and alcohol free because I have had a lot of people in my family abuse substances and alcohol. I've seen the negative toll it has on them and everybody around them. It's just no fun dealing with stuff like that. Honestly, there are no positive outcomes by doing it, so I just stay away from it because I don't want to end up like half of my family. Staying sober has benefited me to be a straight A student and do really well in sports and extracurricular activities. Overall, I'm just a happier person because I'm not negatively impacting the people around me by being and alcoholic and an addict.
Daniella Yacoubian: I am drug and alcohol free because I've always had the pressure from my family to not use those kind of substances. I wouldn't want one small decision to impact my future and the rest of my life. I need to stay focused academically and with my family and friends. I want to prioritze those relationships and not have to have the weight of drugs and alcohol on my shoulders. This has benifited me because I don't have to worry about harming my health and harming my future by engaging with these activities.
Gianna Kuenning: I am drug and alcohol free because I've seen the effects of alcoholism on family memebers. I've seen the negative choices people make under the influence of drugs and alcohol. Staying sober has benefited me to keep a clear head and remain healthy and safe. It helps my friends and others to stay safe as well. I just want to remain healthy and happy and make good choices. I am able to stay focused on school and sports because of my own choices and decisions.
