More than 46,000 people die in car crashes each year, according to the Annual United States Road Crash Statistics (ASIRT). Road accidents have been and will continue to be one of the most significant health hazards. The United States is among the countries with the highest rate of traffic-related fatalities per one million population. These devastating deaths have motivated our team to analyze these accident trends in the US and predict possible accident severities at a particular junction or a street, and be better prepared to minimize the deaths and injuries.
The United States is one of the busiest countries in terms of road traffic, with nearly 284 million vehicles in operation as of the third quarter of 2021. This traffic level is one reason leading to more road accidents. In 2019, some 12.15 million vehicles were involved in crashes in the United States, with over half that volume being passenger cars. The number of road accidents per one million inhabitants in the U.S. is forecasted to dip in the following years, reaching just over 7,100 in 2025. Various other factors can be the reason for these accidents, like the weather, junctions, bumps, and the nearest airports or stations, which are used as different variables in the analysis.
