Conflict theory, as articulated by Karl Marx, is a sociological theory that analyzes the disparities and conflicts within social institutions created by those in power to safeguard their interests (Levinson, Cookson, Sadovni, 2014).

Durkheim's theory of religion explains that religion and society are indivisible (Pals, 2006).  

Weber's theory of religion is that there is a close association between religion and the advancement of economic capitalism (Pals, 159).
