When advisory was established at Har-Ber High School, one of the primary goals for the program was to ensure each student was connected with an adult mentor. This person (advisor) would regularly check-in on the student's academic progress and provide support for the student's social emotional well-being. This relationship would be fostered in a small group atmosphere throughout the course of the student's high school career. While this portion of the advisory program has been successful, we discovered a secondary result that exceeded expectations. The small groups of students who went through three years of high school together had developed a bond that lasted beyond graduation. They had become a TEAM and a family.
At Har-Ber, we want to continue to foster these relationships by giving students the opportunity to learn from each other, to share their unique perspectives, to encourage and motivate one another, and to build lifelong friendships.
