In a report from the International Commission on Education for the Twenty-first Century, author Jacques Delors writes, "quality education enables people to develop all of their attributes and skills to achieve their potential as human beings and members of society." At Har-Ber High, we recognize learning is about more than numeracy and literacy.
We want our students to feel empowered to take responsibility for their learning and to become active citizens who speak up for the change they want to see. This type of student advocacy engages students in their learning and helps hold the school accountable to continuously improve towards quality education for all.
In advisory, students learn how to be an advocate for themselves and others. They learn how to participate in effective dialogue, to stand up for their beliefs while respecting others, and to be resilient in moments of struggle.
