And this, from the first days of the shelter in place order, remains true (but now we have live links!)...
We hope you are staying healthy through these new and challenging times. Truly, our hearts are with all of you.
In this website and in our Google Classrooms, the OPS/LSHS advisory team wants to provide learning opportunities at whatever level you need right now. Please keep in mind that these recommendations are suggestions only and that your wellness is always most important.
In your Google Classrooms, you will find, among other things, assignments (just a way for us to suggest things and keep track of what you do) and a calendar (which you can also reach through the apps block icon in the upper right of your gmail) with links to the meetings and office hours we plan to hold each day. Please fill out any interest surveys or forms so we know what makes sense to offer for seminars and teacher led projects.
On our Shelter in Place website, you will find:
a page with a weekly calendar of activities, a recommended "To Do" list (with daily and weekly checklists)
a page for logging your time if you are doing things we can't see
a resource page with links to some of the online tools you can use
a seminars page that provides information about teacher-led learning
a page for Mary to give you some Art related ideas.
We suggest creating a daily schedule for yourself incorporating the "To Do" list if possible. If you need help, ask an advisor during a meeting time or in an e-mail.
If you can, do ...
some reading (30 mins/day?):
read a book or something else on your own (use the reading log)
Reading Plus
some writing (15+ mins/day?):
really, this an important time to journal and to describe this experience to share in the future
write a book or a play or a poem or...
use Nanowrimo's Stayathomewrimo
some math (30 mins/day?):
online with Khan or Aleks
something else like financial planning or workbooks or shopping or cooking or building or coding or...SO many things use math I can't list them all!
some wellness (30 mins/day):
walking
biking
yoga
meditation
exercise videos
dancing
some projects or seminars to meet other requirements (60 mins/day?):
join the American History or Astronomy/Cosmology seminars or request another teacher led group activity
work on a cool individual or group project
watch documentaries
do a different online class (learn a language in Duolingo, for example)
think of something else, sky's the limit, you just need to follow public health and safety guidelines and be sure your folks approve
a meeting in real time with an advisor and another group like an advisory circle at least once a week (see this week's schedule of activities)
...that would be great. If you can't, it's OK. Please let us know how we can help. Contact us and each other. Learn as you can.
