Social Studies

These curriculum maps outline, for each grade, the topics students will explore using the inquiry process. The Illinois State Standards and the college Career and Civic Life Framework inform learning experiences planned for students so that they can acquire a set of important understandings and skills that equip them in the disciplines of social science. The understandings are the big ideas that we expect students to carry forward with them as they move from grade to grade. Inquiry learning is the basis for students acquiring social science knowledge per Social Science Standards. The concepts for each unit will take the inquiry method below as the structure on how students learn the standards and through integration strategies for K-8.

There are many resources that can be used to go through the inquiry process with students. The inquiry skills are the first skills listed on the Illinois Learning Standards for Social Science. Civics, Geography, Economics & Financial Literacy and History should be integrated into the unit.
