On a warm sunny day in September, my daughter and I canoed up the Kootenay River and turned left into the Goat River. We noticed these old pilings from an old bridge, or maybe a ferry crossing? I wonder if there are any historical pictures of what was here years ago? I've submitted a research request to the Creston Museum to see if they can help me solve the mystery! Here is a satellite map of the area where these are. Unfortunately I don't remember the exact spot. They are somewhere in the red-line zone!
Update--the Museum has shared some information with me about this section of the Goat River, but not about the specific bridge I'm interested in. They sent me this map showing a different bridge that was demolished in 1935. I'll have some more research to do about the mystery bridge!
This map from 1913 was provided by the Creston Museum and shows a bridge that doesn't exist anymore. It was demolished in 1935. An interesting thing about this map is that it is from before the Goat River was diverted to join the Kootenay River. In this map the two rivers don't yet connect, like they do today.
