My name is Joanna Szalewski-Wozniak (Shuh-levz-ski). I have served in Skokie School District 73.5 since 1999 in multiple capacities: preschool teacher, kindergarten teacher, early childhood special education teacher, second-grade teacher, third-grade teacher, and now the inclusion specialist at Middleton School! I obtained a BA in Early Childhood Education from DePaul University, as well as a MA in Early Childhood Special Education from Northeastern Illinois Univeristy. I have a Learning Behavior Specialist certificate, as well as a Gifted Education endorsement from the state of Illinois.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family! I am a proud & involved mama of three Our family enjoys cooking together, traveling, spending time outside, playing card/board games as well as watching shows together!
Elementary Inclusion Specialist Role
The role of the inclusion specialist first began during 2022-23 school year. As the inclusion specialist, it is my role to provide special education push-in minutes for students within the general education setting, collaborating with parents, students, homeroom teachers, exploratory teachers, and administration to help foster and facilitate a more equitable and inclusive learning environment, ensuring the academic and social-emotional success of the whole child. I also offer coaching and professional development for staff.
