A note from the composer:
"Because of the gripping significance of the text, the composer feels it imperative that the following paragraph be read at the performance of this piece.
The Holocaust is a stunning reminder of the tragic results of prejudice and hate toward other people. But it is also a reminder that hope held firm will eventually reign victorious over the greatest of odds. The following words were inscribed on the walls of a cellar in Cologne, Germany, where Jews were hiding from the Nazi's during World War II. Hope was all they had to hold onto; hope was their only bridge to a brighter tomorrow."
I. Kyrie, II. Adoramus Te, III. Gloria
By Jerry Estes
A note from Mr. Hulina:
"This piece brought our choir back to the roots of traditional music in many ways and provided several opportunities to grow as young musicians. Historically, many composers from the Common Practice Period (1600-present) began as church musicians. Latin text became a foundational diction in choral music as it is the basis for several other languages - English, Spanish, Italian - and it still is a staple studied in formal choral diction today. It teaches blend through vowel unification as Latin utilizes pure vowel formation. The traditional three-part harmonies written by Jerry Estes explore common tonalities that are foundational in historical classical music. Pay close attention to how the melodies and harmonies are passed seamlessly between the soprano, alto and baritone sections. Our students really enjoyed the rich musical concepts developed through exploring this traditional classical piece.
FYI - This virtual performance features 126 student tracks over three movements! We hope you enjoy our Mead Virtual Choir performance of Three Contemporary Latin Settings by Jerry Estes."
A note from Mr. Hulina:
We are proud to present our first piece that was completely taught/learned through e-learning. On Friday, March 13, the last day we were in session, I passed out this song and challenged our choir family to come together and lead from every seat. Students learned this song during our first week of official V-Learning using video tutorials and recordings. A week later, they submitted individual audio recordings of what they learned, allowing me to layer recordings together to bring our latest Mead Virtual Choir song to life. Please enjoy Cassandra Emerson's rendition of an old classic, Wayfaring Stranger.
Featuring Small Group Soloists: Andrea, Fernando, Lauren & Lia
A note from Mr. Hulina:
This has been an incredible year for our Mead Choir! We are lucky we were brought together to celebrate the best that life has to offer through sharing the gift of music. Although we are ending the year physically distanced, I am proud of our musical accomplishments and our ability to make the best of each moment. Students, I hope you always remember when you're down, you can always "Just sing!"
Featuring soloists: Brianna V. and Caleb K.
A note from Mr. Hulina:
Words are unable to describe the pride I have for our collective accomplishments this school year! Our choir family is fortunate to have journeyed together, and we are better people because of it. Being a junior high student is the start of discovering who we are as people. You Will Be Found reminds us that although we will have our individual struggles, we can always overcome it with support from those around us. Mead Virtual Choir enthusiastically shares a snapshot of how our family has grown this year through high achievement and fun, but most importantly, support for each other.
Featuring soloists: Ava K., Kristina Y., Ashleigh S., Dylan C., Diane G. & Nina R.
