Hello my name is Robbie Hanchey and I am the director for the American Falls City Summer Band. We are excited to put on an amazing concert for this year’s AF Day on Saturday August 4th in the City Park. The theme this year is “It’s a Jungle Out There” The music we will be performing this summer will be in line with the Jungle theme and will include the exciting music of King Kong, Jurassic Park, Jungle Boogie, Tarzan and many other fun band pieces that will get ready for performance. We are going to be needing as many musicians as possible from American Falls, Aberdeen, Rockland, Pocatello/Chubbuck and anyone else who can make it out to rehearsals that you think would be interested. All rehearsals as of right now will be held at the American Falls High School Band room.

American Falls Music
Why do Music?
There are so many wonderful reasons to joint the band or choir. Having the skill to perform musical instruments and sing has been one of the most cherished accomplishments throughout history. Students who decide to learn to play an instrument and sing can use this skill and knowledge for the rest of their lives. There is nothing like the joy of performing music with friends. It happens every day in school groups and continues for adults who still perform in community choirs, bands, orchestras or for those who perform professionally. In all cases, performing music can be an exhilarating experience.
Aside from the obvious benefits of playing a music instrument or learning to sing, there are a number of surprising academic benefits to students who study music. Students who take lessons on an instrument at a young age stimulate the brain in a unique way. Studies have shown that learning to play an instrument enhances a student's academic performance in math, language arts, foreign language and other academic areas. Even standardized test scores, such as the SAT are higher among musicians.
Whatever the reason, playing an instrument or learning to sing can bring joy and fulfillment like no other activity. The most common remark from parents, following a wonderful school concert is, "I wish my parents wold have encouraged me to learn music and stick with it."
Thanks, - Mrs. Turley and Mr. Hanchey
