  • Make sure that you are thinking about your college choice. Look on their individual websites to check for important deadlines regarding your financial aid package. Have you followed all the steps?

  • FAFSA UPDATE! Now families can amend their FAFSA form or ask the college financial aid office for a “professional judgement review,” Bydon said. Schools are likely receptive to appeals for more aid; they just don’t advertise it. “Death, illness and income loss are always grounds to revisit the FAFSA,” said Michael Brown, the managing director of website Nitro College.

  • Some schools – out of state, private schools – will ask for a deposit and they want to be sure they are doing that / pay attention to those deadlines.

  • LOOK AHEAD! What is you plan? College? Military? Apprenticeship? Career Tech Education? Work Force? Read below to learn more about each of these and give some thought to which path might be right for you.

  • Apply Idaho - In the fall, we’ll have all juniors complete college applications to Idaho Schools through Apply Idaho. Read more below about doing research on college / training programs, and follow links to the 10 Idaho colleges and universities on Apply Idaho.

  • Prepare now for the SAT & ACT! We recommend this for any student who can imagine going on to 4-years of college, career technical training, or an associate’s degree program to put as much effort as possible into these tests. The higher the score the more scholarship money will be open to you!

  • Explore Careers! Reflect on the type of work you might want to do after high school and / or after college and training. Consider taking the ASVAB career inventory test scheduled in the Fall.

  • College/Scholarship Essays. - As you do your reading, writing, and school work in the weeks ahead, also consider whether one of your essays this spring could become the boilerplate for college / scholarship essays next year. More below, but start a Google Doc that will become the place you begin to think about college / scholarship essays (which are the interviews before the interview).

  • Start a resume or brag sheet. We offer some thoughts and suggestions below.

  • New challenges bring new opportunities! - Unforeseen just two months ago. Juniors can look online to "register" for a MOOC (Massive Open Online Class) or two that are of interest. It shows initiative, intellectual curiosity, work ethic, self management. Just type in MOOC in a Google search and you'll find
