In year 9 Bronze participants complete 3-6 months of their individual volunteering, skills and physical opportunities. These activities have given students a sense of responsibility; developed their independence and encouraged them to try something new. The expeditions in the North Downs have been a huge success and given many participants a real taste and enthusiasm for continuing onto the Silver Award.
It will usually take you at least 6 months to complete your Bronze programme.
– Volunteering section: 3 months
– Physical section: 3 months
– Skills section: 3 months
– Expedition section: 2 days/1 night
You also have to spend an extra three months on one of the Volunteering, Physical or Skills sections. It’s your choice which one and, though you can change your mind later, you should decide which section you want to do for longer at the beginning.
There are a wide range of different activities that you can complete for each of the volunteering, physical and skills sections of your award. Participants select and record their own individual activities for each of these sections so they are able to do something which is relevant to and interests them. However, if you want to do an activity with friends then that is perfectly fine.
Many participants find that they are already doing activities which fit into one or more of the sections. Watch this video to get an idea of some of the activities that you could focus on for your DofE sections or explore the DofE activities ideas suggestions on their website.
