Mrs. Stierwalt's 1st Grade Class

August 1, 2022

Welcome!

Dear First Grader,

My name is Mrs. Stierwalt and I am so excited to be your teacher in 1A this year! This is my second year at Immaculate Conception School, and I am thrilled to be coming back to 1st grade in this wonderful community.

We are going to have so much fun this year! In first grade, we will spend time reading, writing, and learning new math skills, while also building a community of learners and friends. Together we will enjoy special events, like Polar Express Week, Kite Day, and field trips. Now that you are a first grader, you will also begin attending school mass.

I have been teaching for thirteen years. Before moving to Springfield and teaching at IC, I spent nine years teaching first grade at an independent school in St. Louis. I grew up in northern Illinois and attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where I received my Master’s degree in Elementary Education. I taught third grade in Champaign for two years before moving to the St. Louis area with my husband where we lived for ten years and where I learned how much I love teaching first graders. My family moved to Springfield last summer for my husband’s job and we love it here! You will probably see my children around school and in and out of my classroom this year, too. My daughter, Kendall, will be in fifth grade this year and my son, Ethan, will be in second grade.

I can’t wait to meet you! I hope you can make it to the Ice Cream Social on August 16, but if not, I will see you on the first day of school. Remember that the start time of school is now 8:05, so I will see you bright and early! The list of supplies you’ll need on the first day is listed below. Please also bring a water bottle with you every day to school. Parents--you can check Clever and the class page for other 1A information and announcements in the coming weeks. See this letter on the class page for a link with directions for logging into Clever.

Enjoy these last days of summer and I will see you soon!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Stierwalt
