The first day of school will be Monday, August 17, 2020.
The revised school calendar can be found here or under the "Quick Links" sidebar on our district website.
Open House events will be held during the two weeks of pre-planning. Each school will have a schedule for Open House. Schedules will be posted the week of August 3.
Supply lists for SCES and SCMS can be found here. SCHS supply lists will be distributed during Open House.
Under Defined Temporary Closure (red) or the Enhanced Mitigation Measures (yellow) model, face masks will be required for staff, students, and visitors. Under Preventative Practices (green) model, masks will be allowed and encouraged.
For more information on masks, click the Masks link above.
Under Defined Temporary Closure (red) model, all three school buildings will be used to socially distance students as much as possible. Under the other models students will be socially distanced as much as possible. For more specific information, please see the prevention strategies for each of the Traditional Learning Models. For more information on masks, please click the link at the top of the page.
Staff and students exhibiting symptoms and/or 100.4 temperature at school will be isolated in a designated area and sent home. Return to work/school allowed with proof of clearance from a physician’s office or health department.
The Georgia Department of Health Decision Tree will be utilized to deploy a targeted response based on confirmed COVID-19 cases or exposures within the school community.
In the event of a positive case, CDC guidelines will be followed. Staff or Students that have a positive COVID-19 test should notify the school immediately. HIPAA rules must be followed, faculty, staff, or students will not be identified. Once a staff or student has tested positive school officials will notify parents of the students that have been in close contact with the individual. The classroom or office space will be disinfected. Anyone who has tested positive will be required to stay home until given a letter by a physician’s office/health department that they have been cleared to return to work/school.
If a faculty/staff member has direct exposure to someone who has tested positive or is suspected of having COVID-19, they are required to notify their school administrator for further guidance as to when they may return back to school. If a family member in a staff member’s household is diagnosed with COVID-19, they will not be allowed to return to work for 14 days or until a physician’s office/health department provides a letter clearing them to return to work
If a student has direct exposure to someone who has tested positive or is suspected of having COVID-19, parents are asked to keep everyone of school age home until a physician’s office/health department letter is provided allowing the student to return to school.
For more information, click COVID protocols at the top of the page.
School officials will stay in communication with local and regional health officials. If health officials give a recommendation to close schools because of spread rates, that information will be communicated to families and we will implement the Defined Temporary Closure (red) model or a full school closure. See the Traditional Learning Models for more information.
If school begins using the Defined Temporary Closure (red) model, we will continue that model until September 4 and the Enhanced Mitigation Measures (yellow) model will begin on September 8. Parents will be notified in advance and provided with all information needed for that transition. If school has to continue in the Defined Temporary Closure (red) model past Labor Day, we will remain in that model until Fall Break and make a determination concerning transitioning to another model at that time. Parents will be notified in advance and provided with all information needed for that transition.
If school begins using the Enhanced Mitigation Measures (yellow) or Preventative Practices (green), parents should be aware that a transition to the Defined Temporary Closure (red) model may become necessary at any given time based on recommendations from local and regional health officials. It may be necessary to close school for students or implement “digital learning days” for a period of time to allow for the district to make the operational changes necessary to change to the Defined Temporary Closure (red) model. Parents will be notified in advance and provided with all information needed for that transition.
Under the Defined Temporary Closure (red) model, students in Pre-K through grade 6 will attend school for in person instruction and all three school buildings will be used to socially distance students as much as possible. Students in grades 7-12 will participate in digital learning days.
Under a full school closure, all students grades Pre-K through 12 will participate in digital learning days.
During the implementation of digital learning days, students will receive instruction from their assigned teacher, but that instruction will be delivered digitally through Google Classroom. Teachers will follow the SCSS Digital Learning Plan during digital learning days.
There have not been any changes to the dress code. For the specifics on each school's dress code, please see the student handbook.
At this time, SCES will not offer PASE or any other after school programs.
