Good morning, Cardinals! This is the last edition of the SCMS Weekly Newsletter for the 25-26 school year. I want to take a minute to thank our families for all of your support. Being the principal of SCMS for the last three years has been the honor of a lifetime. Thank you for supporting the school and partnering with us in your child's educational journey. I hope that everyone has a safe and healthy summer. Do things that bring you joy, but never stop learning! Read books together, get outside, and learn through work and play. I hope that no matter where our Cardinals are, they are giving their best to be the best in everything that they do!

Good Faith Effort Reward Day (TUESDAY):
Students who earned the required GFE points during KSA will receive a reward day. Students will spend the morning at inflatables. The afternoon will be a water foam party. We recommend students wear comfortable clothing to school that day, such as a t-shirt, gym shorts, and shoes that can get wet, such as Crocs. Students are encouraged to bring a water bottle and sunscreen.
To participate in the water foam party, please have your student bring a towel and a change of clothes to change into afterward. We are not allowing phone calls home, and deliveries may not reach the student in a timely fashion, so please prepare ahead and make sure students have what they need on 5/26 when they arrive at school. Thank you to our wonderful PTSA for sponsoring our water foam party once again this year!
Students who did not earn the required points will be in a hold-back room doing classwork.
If we have rain, the inflatables will be moved indoors. Storms will cause the water foam party to be canceled. Teachers will have backup plans for fun in the classroom.
6/7th Grade Awards:
Not all students receive awards. Your child's team should have reached out to you by this point if your child is getting an award.
You will park in the rear parking lot and enter through the gym doors. Family will sit in the bleachers, and students will be seated in the chairs on the gym floor.
If you are taking your child home with you after the awards, we will have sign-out forms and encourage you to complete an EEO or other approved absence form.
I apologize that I will not be present at the 6th-grade ceremony. My grandson, whom I raise, has his own promotion ceremony at the same time.
8th Grade Awards & Promotion:
All 8th-grade students will receive a promotion certificate unless they are in danger of failing. Your child's team will reach out to you if the student is not participating in the ceremony because of failing grades.
Not all 8th graders receive awards. A large majority of our 8th graders reached their math goal and will receive a $50 check from Access to Algebra. We cannot replace checks, so be sure to keep those in a safe place until you cash them.

8th Grade Chromebook Return Information:
Students must return their Chromebook and charger, Wednesday May 27th.
8th graders may keep their case or donate it back to SCMS.
If students need to purchase a replacement charger before turn-in, Amazon is a great source: https://a.co/d/1RBF1Zj. If students do not have their charger, they will be invoiced $25.
Summer Feed:
Have you signed your children up for our Summer Feed Program? This is for all children 2 and older, whether they are SCS students or not. With food being so expensive, this is a great way to provide your kids with breakfast and lunch over the summer months! Register now at https://forms.gle/U2g85m7etK5WGt4D8! This isn't a program for just our needy families. This is open to everyone, so I encourage you to take advantage!
8th Grade Summer Reading Assignment:
If you have an 8th grader who will be attending SCHS next year, they have a summer reading assignment to complete. Here is the link: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1R48YUeB_hFRI7OocQ6WTisbvMyL4NHx0pE1l_uLbLR8/edit?usp=sharing. Questions can be directed to Courtney Keller at SCHS.
Summer Athletics:
Girls' and boys' basketball open gyms will continue over the summer.
Cross country will have open practice and tryouts in July. See the flyer attached.
If you have questions about summer athletics, please reach out to our AD, Dr. Johnson, at marjorie.johnson@scott.kyschools.us
Post-Testing Attendance:
We know that many families get a jump on summer after testing is complete. I encourage you to check out this form that explains how you get days excused for certain activities:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1aEu63yKU99aZ0gcAqUWhAq0d5TRCcIAc0GiEcWPfz34/edit?usp=sharing
I've also attached the Educational Enhancement Opportunity form to this email. Please help us keep our attendance numbers as high as possible by completing one of these, even if you are just leaving early this week. Our attendance clerk, Brandi Adams, can answer any of your attendance questions. Thank you!
Dress Code:
We are noticing that students are starting to push the dress code. Students not in compliance will get a CARDS signature and will be asked to call home for a change of clothes. They will be in the ISS room until clothing can be dropped off. Almost all infractions can be corrected by pulling shorts/skirts down and/or not rolling them up at the waist. Please speak to your student about this.
Remember that the SCMS dress code is created by our SBDM council, which is made up of teachers and parents. With the warmer weather, please go through your student's clothing to ensure that items fit properly. Please review the dress code here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zzcVMjKwhL2WJZrM7hC6Az0wFBgNaMRa04qRK2bz-Tg/edit?usp=sharing
Cafeteria:
Do you have questions about your student's account? Do you have concerns over how much or how little they are eating? Does the student have a new food allergy? Our nutrition manager, Ms. Kim Drown, is available to answer your questions. You can reach her at kimberly.drown@scott.kyschools.us
Our nutrition team prepares great breakfast and lunch options for students every day. They also offer a variety of à la carte items. Those paying reduced or full amounts, please send in cash or a check payable to SCMS for your student's breakfast/lunch account. You can also deposit money electronically at https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain?requestAction=home.
Remember that students cannot enter the building with outside food or beverages. We will ask them to stay out front and finish these items before entering SCMS.
Lost and Found:
This is located outside of Ms. Howard's and Mrs. Wilson's rooms. If something is missing, please encourage students to check in the large, red, lost and found box. All unclaimed items will be donated on June 1st.
Transportation Changes:
We need all bus transportation changes IN WRITING to our front office by 11 AM each day. If your student is going to ride home on the bus with another student, we need a note from both parents by 11 am. Phone calls will no longer be accepted. You can write a note or send an email to amy.oliver@scott.kyschools.us. Car rider changes are not needed as car riders do not receive reminder/change notices. Remember that students cannot exit buses at the high schools unless they are getting on their transfer bus to ride home, or they are an athlete who has a practice/event with a coach.
Car Rider Info:
Admission for Athletic Events: Spectators can purchase tickets at any time now by going to https://gofan.co/app/school/KY74834 . They can also go to gofan.co and search for Scott County Middle School to find our games and purchase tickets.
Infinite Campus Parent Portal: Student grades, attendance, etc. are also available for all students in the Parent Portal. If you have not created a parent Portal account, you will need to e-mail Mrs. Wilson to access your activation code. Please include your name and your students name and grade to kate.wilson@scott.kyschools.us. Each parent/guardian has a separate ID. For families with multiple children in Scott County Schools, one account for each parent/guardian will contain all students, regardless of grade level. Access to these students should be in the top right of the app/website.
Infinite Campus Student Portal: Students will now hit the login with Staff and Students button and use their full student e-mail and chromebook password (google credentials) to login.
