Don't forget to check the announcements page!
Good morning, Cardinal students and families! We're down to just a few days before Spring Break! While we are all excited to reach the break, we plan on working hard this week here at SCMS. Let's all keep giving our best to be the best!
Writing Scrimmage:
All students will be completing a writing piece this morning as we practice and prepare for state testing. Students will receive feedback so that they can work on areas of concern before the May test. We are so proud of our writing here at SCMS, as we consistently have one of the highest scores across the state. Be sure to ask your student about it this afternoon!
Checking Out Students:
With the warmer temperatures, we have more teachers taking advantage of outdoor learning spaces here at SCMS. If you are checking your student out from school early, please be aware that the time it takes for your student to make it to the front office may be longer than normal. We have a huge campus, so please give yourself some extra time.
Dress Code:
The SCMS dress code is created by our SBDM council, which is made up of teachers and parents. With the warmer weather, please go through your student's clothing over spring break. Ensure that items fit properly. Please review the dress code here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1zzcVMjKwhL2WJZrM7hC6Az0wFBgNaMRa04qRK2bz-Tg/edit?usp=sharing
School Site Visit:
The Central Kentucky Educational Cooperative will be visiting us tomorrow. They are doing a study on what makes SCMS so amazing! I am so proud of our students and staff for the hard work that they put in every day.
Rewards Trips This Week: 7th grade reward trip will be Thursday 4/2 and 8th grade reward trip will be Friday 4/3.
Spring Break:
We hope that students enjoy the break, which runs from April 4th to April 12th. Be safe and enjoy the time away from school. We will see you on April 13th!
Spring Food Bags and Celebration Baskets:
Would you like to give back to the school community? The PTSA is looking for adult volunteers (students may come with their parents) to pack spring food bags for needy families here at SCMS. They are also preparing celebration baskets for these students. They will meet on Wednesday at 4:30 here at SCMS.
Home Events this Week:
Tomorrow is a busy night here at SCMS. Baseball will get the evening going at 5:30, followed by softball and soccer at 6:00. On Thursday, soccer will be back at home, beginning at 6:00. We love student spectators, but require a parent/guardian to be in attendance for the entirety of the event.
Smart Glasses:
Smart eyewear is now a thing. These glasses can take pictures, record, search the internet, and more. Smart glasses will be treated like cell phones. They must be in the "off" position during the school day. If students have them turned "on," they will be taken and locked in the front office until a parent/guardian can come and pick them up. During testing, students will not be permitted to wear these. They must be kept in a locker and/or backpack.
End of the Year Testing Dates:
The final iReady tests of the year will be on the mornings of April 16th and 17th. Results will be available instantly. These tests will help us determine class placements for the 26-27 school year, and we'll also use this data to see what we need to work on before state testing.
KSA testing will run May 8th-15th. Attendance is especially important on these days.
Yearbook: The deadline for purchasing is April 2, there will be limited extras available. Purchasing info for yearbooks can be found: https://ybpay.lifetouch.com/Order/SelectJob If needed, job number: 12643226
If you have questions regarding the yearbook, please contact Mrs. Wilson, kate.wilson@scott.kyschools.us.
Cafeteria:
Do you have questions about your student's account? Do you have concerns over how much or how little they are eating? Does the student have a new food allergy? Our nutrition manager, Ms. Kim Drown, is available to answer your questions. You can reach her at kimberly.drown@scott.kyschools.us
Our nutrition team prepares great breakfast and lunch options for students every day. They also offer a variety of à la carte items. Those paying reduced or full amounts, please send in cash or a check payable to SCMS for your student's breakfast/lunch account. You can also deposit money electronically at https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/getmain?requestAction=home.
Remember that students cannot enter the building with outside food or beverages. We will ask them to stay out front and finish these items before entering SCMS.
Free Tutoring:
Did you know that we offer free tutoring after school each Tuesday? It is often referred to as Extended Student Services (ESS). Does your student need to get caught up on work or study for an upcoming test? Reach out to your student's team leader for more information. Transportation home is not included. Please reach out to your student's advisory teacher for details specific to your child's team.
Attendance: Please remember that parents receive 6 excuses each school year. Students should be fever-free and vomiting/diarrhea-free for 24 hours before returning. Otherwise, please make every effort to get your student here. If you have obstacles standing in the way of getting your student to school, please let us know. Our Family Resource and Youth Service Center (FRYSC) is here to support you in removing those obstacles. Ms. Howard can be contacted at shanna.howard@scott.kyschools.us
If your student is out, please be sure to send in a doctor's or parent's note when they return. Remember that you have 10 days to get absence notes (parent or doctor) turned in to Ms. Brandi Adams in the attendance office. You can do this by emailing scms.attendance@scott.kyschools.us
Lost and Found: This is located outside of Ms. Howard's and Mrs. Wilson's rooms. If something is missing, please encourage students to check in the large, red, lost and found box.
Transportation Changes: We need all bus transportation changes IN WRITING to our front office by 11 AM each day. If your student is going to ride home on the bus with another student, we need a note from both parents by 11 am. Phone calls will no longer be accepted. You can write a note or send an email to amy.oliver@scott.kyschools.us. Car rider changes are not needed as car riders do not receive reminder/change notices. Remember that students cannot exit buses at the high schools unless they are getting on their transfer bus to ride home, or they are an athlete who has a practice/event with a coach.
Car Rider Info:
Admission for Athletic Events: Spectators can purchase tickets at any time now by going to https://gofan.co/app/school/KY74834 . They can also go to gofan.co and search for Scott County Middle School to find our games and purchase tickets.
Infinite Campus Parent Portal: Student grades, attendance, etc. are also available for all students in the Parent Portal. If you have not created a parent Portal account, you will need to e-mail Mrs. Wilson to access your activation code. Please include your name and your students name and grade to kate.wilson@scott.kyschools.us. Each parent/guardian has a separate ID. For families with multiple children in Scott County Schools, one account for each parent/guardian will contain all students, regardless of grade level. Access to these students should be in the top right of the app/website.
Infinite Campus Student Portal: Students will now hit the login with Staff and Students button and use their full student e-mail and chromebook password (google credentials) to login.
