Feel free to put hand on your chest to check heart rate as a substitute to the neck or wrist. Also, you could count your heart beating for 6 seconds and then add a zero to that number to get your heart rate score. You can send me picture and/or heart rate number (can you get it to 130 or higher for the obstacle course) at Treinert@schuylkillvalley.org. Feel free to come up with some of your original ideas to help create a fitness chalk course. If making an obstacle course please talk to your parents first before using it to ensure safety. Fitness Calendar K AND 1

PLAY 60

TRY TO GET YOUR 60 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EACH DAY USING THE CALENDAR BELOW AS A GUIDE FOR YOU TO DO AS OFTEN OR AS LITTLE AS YOU PREFER

  1. All Grades should watch the video and complete as much of the workout as possible. Take breaks if needed. Look on YouTube for more workouts by Joe which is the top trending video on YouTube currently.

2. Wellness for Grades K-1

List 5 food groups

Write down a few examples for each food group

Find foods in the house for each food group

Draw a picture of foods on plate with each group used for the meal.

Create a meal with family applying the concept of each food group for a meal that day.

3. Grades K-1 Choose several of the activities below to complete.

Healthy at Home

Fitness: Play 1 or 2 various warmup activities per day learned from class such as (Tunnel Tag, Monkeys and and Baboons, High Five Tag, Turtle Tag, and or Bandage Tag and progress to one of the bigger activities below.

Instant activity

Do red/green/yellow light with a leader/parent calling out the colors and Jump/Touch/Spin commands.

1. Bandage Tag: Grades K-5 Equip: none

Everyone is "It." Each person may be tagged a total of 3 times but he or she must cover with one hand the area touched until the third tag. For example, if a student is tagged on the elbow, she must hold or cover her elbow. If the second tag is on the back, she must also cover that area. Students are "frozen" on the 3rd tag and move off the play area until the game begins again. The game moves quickly so you may want to play it several times.

2. Monkeys and Baboons Grades K-5 Equip: scarves or flags for half the players

Explain that monkeys have tails (scarves) and baboons do not. The baboons get tails by pulling the scarves away from the monkeys. Monkeys lose their tails become baboons and the game continues

3.High Five Tag Grades K-5 Equip: none

Choose 1 or 2 to be taggers. When students are tagged, they freeze with one hand high in the air. As soon as someone gives them a high five on their outstretched hands, they may rejoin the game. Select new taggers often44Tunnel Tag (Everybody’s It) Grades K-5

4. Tunnel Tag Grades K-5 This is a tag game where everybody is it and if tagged you must freeze and spread legs until someone crawls through the front of you and unfreezes you. Locomotor movements will be used. Only crawl through the front of the tunnel.

5. Turtle Tag: Grades K-5 4 students are it and wear a pinnie. If tagged they are frozen and make a bridge with hands and knees on the floor. Someone else must save them by crawling under their tunnel while they are in that strengthening position.

NEXT.....

Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament Grades K-1

Declare which sides of the room are the Success Side and the Try Again Side, or place 2 cones separated from each other by 15 to 20 yards. On signal, play R, P, S Dynamic Rock Paper, Scissors (use your legs instead of your hands. For the countdown, jump up and down 2X instead of pounding your fist on your hand. On your 3rd jump keep your feet together if you want to be a Rock, bring your legs out to the sides in a straddle position if you want to be Paper, or bring 1 leg forward and 1 leg back if you want to be Scissors.with your partner. If you win, jog to the Success Side. If you don't, jog to the Try Again Side. If win on Success side stay there and find someone else. IF lose on the try again side look for another kid on that side. (Show students which side of the area is Success and which is Try Again. • Find a new person to play. Introduce yourself if you don’t already know the player.

Play again, then move or stay based on the outcome.

Variation: How many victories can you do in a row? Record is 7 or 8

Variation: Have players before playing each person tell them something about themselves

Hiking/Walking/Jogging/Biking

Get outside and move! Keep heart rate near or above 130 hearts beats per minute. Try to increase and improve each day by going for 1 or 2 or 5 minutes longer than the previous day.
