The artwork Platypus in the Reeds is designed to spread awareness of the animals living in Canberra and surrounding regions. The platypus is a small amphibious mammal native to Australia. The platypus spends most of its time in the water, but builds burrows at the shoreline. They live in freshwater streams, rivers and lakes connected to rivers. While being a mammal, the platypus lays egg; similar to that of an Echidna. The platypus is adorable and meets all criteria set for the task at hand, which is why this animal was chosen

Artist Statement : My Corroboree Frog print aims to popularise the animal to spread the awareness of it being one of Australia’s most critically endangered species (Corroboree Frog, 2020). This print allows people to learn and explore about the Corroboree Frog. I chose the Corroboree Frog as my print because when I was young, I fell in love when I saw it due to the distinctive bright yellow colour contrasting the black. These bright colours it possesses are poisonous just like any other bright coloured animals and plants (10 Fast Facts about Corroboree Frogs, 2016). Corroboree Frogs are found in marshlands and sclerophyll forests under logs and subalpine bogs of south-eastern NSW and the ACT (Corroboree Frog, 2020)
