Bridging the digital equity gap – Secondary students

Under the Better schools for our kids - technology enabled learning initiative, the ACT Government made a commitment to provision the allocation of portable electronic devices to every secondary student in a Canberra public school. Starting with years 7 to 11 in term 1, 2018, students were able to opt into the program to receive a Chromebook for learning wherever and whenever they need it. By 2019, all secondary public school students will have the option to be allocated a device for learning.

This initiative is to ensure that every secondary student in Canberra public schools has the same access to a device to enhance their learning through technology, irrespective of family circumstances.

We are building on the success of the Learn, Anywhere program. Schools have already invested significantly in Chromebooks through their engagement with G Suite for Education. Communities of like-minded teachers have been established to share innovative practices, ideas and resources.

Further information for the public can be found on the Better schools for our kids - technology enabled learning webpage.
