Are you aware of the amount of Artificial Intelligence surrounding our society? Around 40% of Americans consume AI whether it's for information, entertainment, navigation, and more. AI has been a part of our lives for years, developing and growing each day into our future. As we adapt to the new changes in our society, studies say to learn the effectiveness of new technologies being created.
AI, a computer system that is programmed to think, learn, and act similar to humans, became more public and mainstream around 2023. The majority of those who engage in the use of AI tools are teenagers and younger children who have extended this use of technology into their schoolwork, amusement, or even in their regular daily lives without even realizing. When asked about how AI has affected the youth, a sophomore states "I feel as if students now take advantage of it and just use it for their convenience, you know, instead of a support method. Like even in school it takes away the learning aspects and distracts students from actually learning from their teacher.”
There have been many cases where people have fallen for false information generated from AI that spread across many platforms including Tikok, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Apart from the inconvenience that comes from AI, there are many more aspects to it. The technology in healthcare has assisted doctors to diagnose ill patients more efficiently and detect earlier signs of diseases. People in the workforces also use this technology to process large amounts of data, summarize information in a short matter of time, and are able to gather information without human bias. In our world, we have used AI unknowingly with social media, banking, google search, smart home devices, etc. As AI evolves and adjusts into our society, it increasingly becomes a part of our society using its many abilities to reshape the way we live.
