P.S. This is an opinionated piece, please don’t be offended. You can still wear what you like.
As the temperature drops, so do last season’s trends. The real question is: What’s in for this fall, and what’s definitely out?
Fall fashion is known for its cozy layers and timeless pieces, but not every trend earns a spot in your and our wardrobe. Each year, designers and consumers make their decisions on what to keep and what to discard, as some styles start to become more popular than others. But why is it that style trends change every year? The answer to this according to the fashion blog, Medium, each season introduces new colors that define fashion and influence trends.
To compare our fall fashion beliefs, we surveyed 20 random students here at Hillcrest High School. Here’s a quick summary of the responses that stood out to us:
60% of students believe that flannel shirts are out this fall. (Isn’t that a relief!)
55% of students believe that beanies are out this season too!
55% of students believe that ballet flats are in… (For such expensive, uncomfortable, and impractical shoes, we are shocked.)
75% of students agree that low rise jeans are in.
Below we have displayed our reasoning for our fall fashion choices including the percentages of students who have agreed with us.
Leather Jackets:
65% Agree
In!
A classic that never goes out of style. It's sleek,
edgy and perfect for cooler weather. They will
always remain in, forever a staple in your closet.
Chunky Jewelry:
35% Agree
Out!
Fasia doesn’t believe in chunky
jewelry ever being out, but the rest of us
do! They had their moment. Sorry, but
we are shifting to minimal jewelry. We’re letting
our necks breathe this season.
Headbands:
45% Agree
In!
All kinds of headbands are in this fall. Zig zag, thick, and thin. Headbands are the perfect finishing touch to an outfit. If you have disagreed with us then maybe you haven’t seen Blair Waldorf’s outfits.
Flannels:
55% Agree
Out!
Though cozy, flannels are stepping aside this season, they had a good run but it's time for more sophisticated looks
Big Scarves:
55% Agree
In!
A coveted fashion piece that is perfect
for fall weather. It’s cozy, stylish, and
practical. The bigger, the better.
Shackets:
75% Agree
Out!
Honestly, we still don’t know what a shacket even is. A shirt that’s a jacket? Make it make sense. Let's stick to classic jackets this season.
Suede:
45% Agree
In!
How could so many people disagree with
us? The suede fabric is in for jackets,
shoes, etc. Now if we see anyone who
disagreed wearing Uggs this fall, we will
definitely be saying something.
Knit Sweaters:
85% Agree
In!
Of course. Knit sweaters will always and forever be in. Fall without knit sweaters are like coffee without caffeine—pointless.
Beanies:
55% Agree
Out!
No need to cover your head! Let’s
put the beanies to rest this season.
Unless of course, it's really cold out.
(Or if you can style them right).
Prints:
75% Agree
In!
Personally, we hate the prints. Especially polka dots, but most students from Hillcrest disagreed with us. So, you guys can have your prints but if I hear another glamor, blonde.. I'm coming for you...
Coquette Bows:
35% Agree
Out!
Although many students disagree with us, bows
have had their run this year. If anyone is going
to be wearing them this fall, let’s keep them to
a minimum and let them return to the cute
accents they once were. This isn’t a
gift-wrapping contest.
Low Rise Jeans
75% Agree
In!
This popular jeans style has been making a
well deserved comeback! So many people
can pull this off. These jeans in the fall make
so many people stand out.
That's it, take it or leave it!
