Who da best?

Spider-Man has been a cherished character for many years, starting as a comic book in 1962 and growing into a very popular movie franchise. Over the years, Spider-Man has been adapted many times, with different actors taking on the role and each adding their own unique spin to the character. This diversity adds to the character’s universal appeal, as he connects with audiences of all ages. With so much diversity however, it sparks debates amongst fans. More specifically questioning: who is the best Spiderman?

While Spider-Man is a franchise for all ages, it is pretty popular among teens. What better place to get teens’ opinions than in a high school. Here at Hillcrest High School, senior student Keli Dzokpe stated, “I personally believe from my own personal analytics that Toby Maguire possesses the attributes that it takes to possess the power and notability of the best Spiderman. Tobey Maguire, the original Spiderman as we know him himself, quite has everything it takes to be the proper actor. He has the masculinity, the stealth, the intelligence and everything it takes to hold upon that title.” Many students that were interviewed did state that Tobey was their favorite simply for the reason that he was the first, the original. 

With the idea that Tobey is the favorite to some comes the question: Do you believe that Tobey Maguire's Spiderman is the best to some just because he is the original? To which the same student stated, “Most definitely. A lot of my opinion does come from the original spider man. I feel like it shaped what we think Spiderman should be because he was the first. So if someone does it a little differently then we might have a different expectation as to who Spider-Man should be because of how Toby Maguire made Spiderman.”

Throughout the decades, there have been many different actors who have played Spiderman. All play the same character but have their own different qualities in each movie. That being said, there are going to be certain versions of Spiderman that people are not a fan of. Some said Tom Holland was the worst, “I mean it’s hard to decide but if i had to choose it’d be Tom because I think Andrew and Tony are better actors, you know, like more emotion when they’re acting.” “I think it’s Tom Holland. I don’t have no problem with Tom but out of me, Andrew and Tobey I’m like lowkey the best so.” “Tom Holland, I don’t like Tom Holland. I used to have a crush on Zendaya and he has Zendaya. And it’s just too new and corny for me."

When some people debate this topic they come to the conclusion that each actor fulfills a different aspect about Spiderman. Therefore , no one can truly be the best Spiderman. Likewise, some believe that Tobey Maguire depicted Peter Parker well but he could not be close to perfect with Spiderman, Tom Holland played both roles well but the writing for the movies wasn't all the way there like the others and Andrew Garfield was a great Spiderman but was not a realistic Peter Parker.
