Activities To Do In October

When the air becomes cold and feels crispy by the end of September, that's when you know it's October. October is a month with the perfect blend of indoor and outdoor activities such as Halloween related and non-Halloween activities. Exploring the city and being part of the festivals, or simple things such as being in the comfort of your own home while still enjoying the fall spirit. Living in a city, it can be a bit difficult to find fun, free activities. Due to how difficult it is, it feels like they don't even exist but in reality there are a bunch of free, fun, family friendly activities.
During the Halloween season there are parades that are great for a fall family outing. The village Halloween parade is known as one of the best Halloween parades due to how creative it is and how each year it's a different theme. This year's theme is “meow” so make sure to bring your cat ears and whiskers. The parade runs up from sixth ave from kings st. to 15th st in Manhattan starting at 7pm, and ending at 11pm. It's the perfect parade to bring your family since it starts later in the day which gives you time to get there early to pick out a perfect spot.
Watching Halloween movies in the park would be another fun activity. October is the month to highlight not only the fall season but most importantly the celebration of Halloween, and what more perfect than watching some scary movies with the added autumn feel of being in a park . Bring your snacks, and your blankets to enjoy a perfect movie night with some horrifying and spooky movies. We all know the famous Salem witch trials. Due to its history, the town is known as the witch city. People are fascinated by the rich history and its spookiness which is why they visit Salem, Massachusetts, to see where the trial took place, and those who are interested in early American history go to see landmarks that's located in Salem. During the month of October, there's a lot of tourist attractions due to the fact that people love to visit during Halloween since it fits the theme; spookiness. It's a great place to visit with family and friends. Even if you can't make the ride to Massachusetts, it’s recommended to go and learn more about the trials and its history at the New York Historical Society museum.
Trick or Treating is a must when it's the month of October as it is part of the celebration of Halloween, and what better way to celebrate than by going out in your best costumes to Bryant park’s tricks and treats trail on Thursday October 3lst, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
Just like there’s free fun activities, there's also activities that require you to spend money. These activities, just like the free ones, are fun to do with family and friends as a way to spend time with your loved ones, while enjoying the spirit of Halloween or fall in general.
If you're looking for something a little intense and you're a fan of horror then going to a haunted house is a great idea. They are filled with thrilling scares, heart dropping jump scares, smoky/ haunted effects and are an unforgettable exciting experience. There are more than a dozen of them in NYC like… If you love getting a good scare, Six flags has its annual fright fest that is held from September 28th all the way through October 27th. The theme park includes haunted houses, workers dressed up to spook you, themed areas which are called scare zones, live entertainment and of course their fun rides. It’s recommended to go during the weekend so you're able to enjoy all if not most rides and a good scare. It's the perfect thing to put someone in the Halloween spirit.
Pumpkin picking and Apple picking is a great way to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and get some fresh produce. Fishkill Farms is a place you should definitely check out. They have amazing orchards and a great selection of pumpkins. Reservations are required to participate in pumpkin or apple picking, you can go on their site to register. They also have wagon rides that run on Saturdays and Sundays if you're interested.
Whether it may be a calm activity such as apple and/or pumpkin picking, or an all day activity such as six flags, there's something for everyone. Going out and having fun is a good way to spend the fall season and enjoy the good cold weather.
